Zero-Som sustainability event

The Zero-Som sustainability event launched Shaping South Somerset - the Strategy for Sustainable Communities (2008 - 2026). There were over 40 exhibitors covering a wide range of things to help us live more sustainable lives.

Exhibitions included Al-Vac Electric Cars, the Carshop's eco-friendly vehicles, Rock and Road cycles, Somerset Farmers Market, the South West Allotments and garden association, Low Impact Living Initiatives showing really practical ways of living within environmental limits and many more. There was a children's completion that was won by 12-year old Jessie-May Van Hooft.

Julia Hailes local author of the New Green Consumer Guide gave an inspiring presentation on how even the little actions we take to reduce energy and waste will add up globally to making a real difference. She gave a signed copy of her new book as a prize for the free draw.

Julia Hailes lives in the heart of South Somerset and is the author of the New Green Consumer Guide book. She was the keynote speaker at the Zero-Som Sustainability Event hosted by South Somerset Together at the Yeovil Innovation Centre on Saturday 13th June 2009. Her informative and inspiring speech encouraged everyone to make even small changes in their everyday lives; because small changes make a huge difference to the planet when added together!
